GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS DIRECTOR
The Governmental Affairs Director is responsible for providing
members with accurate and timely government-related information
enabling them to assess the importance of proposed legislation
affecting the entities they represent. The Governmental Affairs
Director encourages all members to actively support public policy
reflecting the best interests of the Society though formal ongoing
communication with their elected representatives. The Director
also coordinates an annual Legislative Conference for SHRM members.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
State Director
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend all State Council meetings and
actively participate in Council matters.
- Encourage and support balanced and fair
public policy which reflects the best interests of the Society,
its members, and their employers.
- Communicate in a positive and proactive
manner the Society's and each member's concern with proposed
and existing legislation along with administrative rules.
- Establish and maintain a grassroots effort
to effectively present the Society's position on all matters
of interest and concern.
- Provide a centralized monitoring and networking
source for the Society.
- Plan and coordinate an annual State Legislative
Conference.
- Perform other duties as assigned by State
Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
- SHRM membership
in good standing required.
TERM:
Serves a one-year term beginning with the first day of January
ending the last day of December. May be reappointed for four additional
terms for a total service for five years.
